In July 2021, we found ourselves both single in post-pandemic New York City, not exactly looking for love. But love had other plans.
After matching on a dating app, we made plans to meet in person. One fateful Saturday night, Alexandra—in a decision so out of character it left her friends questioning her sanity—invited Guillermo (a stranger she met on the internet) over to her Brooklyn apartment, where she lived alone. Call it very poor judgment or a moment of sheer brilliance, her gut pushed her forward before her mind could catch up.
That night we bonded over orange wine & negronis; colorful, ambient lighting; and a surprising overlap in our taste in music.
From that day, things fell into place with an ease neither one of us expected. We’ve built a partnership that makes us both proud. We’ve loved & supported each other through career changes, illness, and many, many long runs, both literal & metaphorical. We are best friends and push each other to grow & take in more of the world with grace & intention.
For Alexandra, she’s gotten the chance to watch more Track & Field events than she ever imagined (who knew they even broadcast those on TV?). And for Guillermo, he’s learned countless Taylor Swift lyrics and now follows a highly curated skincare routine (usually).
Our relationship started at home, and we’ve been at home with each other ever since. We live a block away from Alexandra’s old apartment, a happy reminder of where it all began.
To be clear, we’re often not home—the only thing we love more than our neighborhood in Brooklyn is going on adventures to new places.
Our favorite adventure was a trip to Mexico City. In early 2022, we spent a month in CDMX doing an experiment we called “roommate tryouts.” It was a test to see if we wanted to live together (Guillermo was already sure; Alexandra liked her space). On that trip, we fell completely, head-over-heels in love with Mexico City, and more in love with each other.
When we decided to get married, we had a hard time imagining doing it anywhere else but CDMX. We hope our wedding weekend shows you why we love this place, and each other, so much.
Con mucho cariño,
